Change yarn colors when crocheting in the round
in this video I’m gonna show you how to change colors in amigurumi so let’s pretend that this stitch marker represents the first stitch of the previouse round which means you have one stitch left in this round this one and the pattern says that you need to switch to yellow yarn in the upcoming round so what we’ll do is a normal single crochet as you normally would so you insert the hook under the stitch pull the yarn through and then now instead of guarding over and pulling that yarn through again take the new color yarn put it on your hook where the tail is in front of the hook and the working yarn is in the back or I guess the tail is on the bottom and the working yarn is on the top of book pull that through at this point if you’re like me sometimes this loop from the old yarn is a little bit big so I pull on that a little bit so it’s a little tighter now you get back into position take the stitch marker out and we’re gonna do a slip stitch instead of a single crochet stitch for the very first stitch but you’ll treat it as though it is the first single crochet stitch in this round so turnover and pull it through both loops and by doing this instead of a single crochet stitch the transition between colors will be a little bit smoother so when you are doing the rest of the single crochets in this round you want to crochet over both yarn tails of both the old yarn and the new yarn so that it stays secure so for example we’re gonna do a single crochet stitch insert the hook yarn over pull it through two loops on the hook yarn over pull it through both loops and before we get too far I’m gonna put this stitch marker back in to mark the first stitch of new round get back into place and I happen to have already cut this old yarn already but normally I’d like to wait to cut it until I have crocheted basically a full round where I have secured that yarn tail by crocheting over it because then I just feel more secure like the yarn won’t accidentally come off and notice the other thing I’m doing if you don’t want the yarn to show through the stitches you want to position these yarn tails a bit towards the inside of your amigurumi piece or no one will be looking anyway so I’m just gonna quickly complete this round so you can see what we do when we get back to the very first stitch of the round okay so we are now at the last stitch of this round and a new color I’m going to single crochet like I normally would and yet again also going to single crochet in the first stitch of this round as I would normally would as well since I have told you before that that first stitch is being treated as though it were a single crochet in that rep and so let me just crochet a few more stitches so you can see how the color change looks like in the end all right so there you have it [Music]
@muttlee1213
thank you so much for that easy explanation of color change!
@kindredg
Hi, I really appreciate these videos but there's only one issue I'm having now- I'm doing the shark which requires two reduction stitches while changing colors inbetween and I'm having a hard time figuring out what's what without a video illustrating that exact thing. Like do I do the slip stitch inbetween the two reduction stitches or do I make the slip stitch a hybrid reduction-slip stitch? Help!
@donnathompsonlegare
The jog in colour change is not nice.
@alishajackson717
I do the same thing and my stripes are still offset
@salehafaizurrahman5687
Helloo.. what to do if i were making double crochet ? Only slip stitching is enough?
@thatsmsrivers
Well what’d ya know! It worked! 😅🎉🧶
@DawnOfWonder868
I’m so confused. The shark pattern says this is supposed to be a color change AND a decrease, but that’s not what the video says??????
@psz34
But this is NOT crochet in the round……….
@micahschmidt7585
This was so much fun to work on just in general
@user-md8hr4lx9u
Thank you very much. How clear and concise.
@Animefreak80
Just need to be slower on the slip stich part. Had to keep pausing
@lillybee6393
Thank you! Just what I needed to make the color change in my pattern! Love the use of a slip knot in the transition…clever 😉
@liliasawyer7145
This is great, thank you! You give enough details to not cut important info out but not be verbose. I was just looking for this technique and came across this video. Thank you ☺️
@dandyblethroad6442
This video is a little confusing since it doesn't quite match up with the shark pattern.
@aheartofworship27
Quick and to the point! 😊 thanks
@teenmakeup9993
Hi! Not sure if you will answer this but I’m working on a project that says to only do the second color for 3 stitches. Does the slip stich count as the first stitch? Or does the first single crochet count as the first one
@Sabrina-em4tg
Thank you very much for all your help with this.
@TheAlexTheory
I'm literally about to scream… I cannot for the life of me get this transition right. I don't understand when you're saying yarn over both tails?? My transition just looks like a disgusting mess. Wish you'd have gone a bit slower.
@maggiebridge1895
I’ve made at least 7 woobles kits and adored every single one… so much so that I come back to these videos to help me with non-woobles projects! Thank you for such a wonderful resource!
@lmxliv7748
how would i do it if it requires the work to be flippped
@veeveeyu
If my pattern says: change to new color, and then the next round is 1 dec, and 14 sc, do i still do that slip stitch initially with the new color?
