How to crochet an invisible fasten off for open edges
in this video i’m going to show you how to do the invisible fasten off which is a technique that you would most likely use when you are finishing an open piece like this one so an open piece means that it’s a piece that’s purposely going to have a hole in the middle so that you know say you’re going to put stuffing inside of it you still could access the inside of the piece and if you’re making amigurumi or crochet stuffed toys what it likely means is that this is some part of your piece that’s going to get sewn onto another piece for example something like an ear or an arm or a leg and the reason why you do an invisible fasten off is that if you were to do a regular fasten off at this point you would have a knot over here and then you would have a taller part of your piece over here that suddenly becomes a shorter part which makes it quite obvious where you began and ended your piece so with this method it’s going to look like one seamless flat nice piece so to begin with let us pretend that we have just finished our last stitch of this open piece and instead of fastening off as we normally would we’re going to cut the working yarn to make a yarn tail that i would say should be at least three times the circumference of whatever it is of whatever this open piece is um usually i would say at least six inches long and you’re probably pretty safe and then you’re just gonna pull the yarn tail all the way through put your hook aside won’t need that anymore grab your tapestry needle and thread it with the yarn now we are going to analyze our piece so here is where the last stitch was made you can see that it’s grabbed through this stitch we’re going to put the tapestry needle not in the following stitch but in the one after that from the outside in and then we’re gonna pull the yarn through not all the way so i still have you know quite a nice amount of yarn here and the reason why is because we are going to now analyze where the yarn tail came from so let’s spin this around again and you want to see you want to look at the stitch that this yarn tail is coming out of now we are going to put the tapestry needle through only the top loop so the top loop if you imagine that every stitch looks like a v the top loop is the top of that v which is this one so you’re going to put the tapestry needle under the top loop from the bottom to the top and then you’re just gonna pull all the way until you get what voila looks just like a v like every other v in this round this is the v that you just made so i’m going to take my needle out so that you can see how nice and even it looks you can barely tell where you ended your piece and from here if you’re gonna crochet this onto another piece you would take this yarn tail and use it to sew this piece onto another and if you were not going to do that and like say you’re ending a hat or basket you would actually weave in the yarn tail on the inside probably of your piece that it’s not as visible and that is the invisible fasten off

I agree, canβt focus with the back and fourth explaining. Just explain it straightforwardly and give the tips at the end. I watched this like 5x and kept Messi going up. Watched a different video and got it right away.

Why would you not show how to complete the rest? Or at least even starting the next stitch. Showing only one makes no sense.
@nicoleelizaful
My Fred the Dino still has an extra string hanging from the tip of the tail. Do I just stuff it into the tail or cut it off before I do the invisible fasten? I emailed The Woobles for help but no response yet. Thanks.

So far the bjorn videos are crap. Too much talking about inessential tidbit and going too fast through essential parts.

Thank you so so much π€

I have tried so many variations of invisible f/o's over the past few months and this is by far the most seamless. Thank you! Will be using this method from now on!
@VisorDaddy
Why am I getting this video for my tiger? I'm creating snout, my magic circle is more like a u, and when I try to do an invisible fasten off all it does is try to force the U into a line

Hi there! Learning crochet for the first time, and while the intruction is good, Im finding it REALLY hard to focus due to all the back and forth and re explaining of things. Something that might be noteworthy to think about for your clients. I have adhd and focusing on things that repeat themselves too many times or back track a lot can be really challenging. I ended up having to send the instructions to a friend of mine so that she could "translate" them for me, because sometimes it feels like it takes too long to get to the point. I also find it a challenge when the instructions arent "in order". What I mean by this, is doing the instruction, and then back tracking, talking more about the instruction, then starting the instruction over ect. I get lost, and the first video I followed had me so frustrated with the back and forth, that it confused me, and I cried (not proud of that). I didnt give up, because I knew if I put it down, I wouldnt pick it up again. I think that these intructions are great for a lot of people, however for those of us that struggle with that kind of instruction, I might suggest making another video that is more straight to the point and more consecutive instruction? I dont know if I'm the only one having this challenge or not, however it may be helpful to your more neurodivergent clients. My solution has been to watch the video once or twice, and then mute when I need to review it and just skipping ahead. Not sure what that instructional video would look like, however I figured I would mention something in case anyone else is having the same challenge; And you dont know if no one tells you right? Anyways, just some food for thought!
TLDR: The back and forth/repetative instruction can be really frustrating to follow, and it would be nice to have another video (or added to the end of the current video) that was more to the point.

I'm here because the instructions for my kit said to finish my magic loop with an invisible fasten off. But when I follow the steps in this video, my magic loop ends up looking very wonky. I think it's because of the "skip the first stitch and jump to the second" part of the instructions. Skipping to the second stitch in a magic loop (that only has 6 stitches) is 1/3 of the way around, and that seems too far to be placing a single stitch. What am I missing?
