How to make the FIRST leg of an intermediate Wooble

in this video I’m gonna show you how to crochet the first leg of a intermediate roubles animal such as a bear or a hippo so here I have the body of a bear and I have just completed round 52 of this pattern which is just a regular set of single crochet stitches mixed with probably decrease stitches so that this bear has become more narrow here and now I’m on the 50 third round of this pattern which says to essentially create a total of 28 single crochet stitches but there’s some text here explaining that you want to move the stitch marker to a different stitch other than the first stitch of the round because in wools patterns we use the stitch marker to mark the very first stitch of every round traditionally so what I’m gonna do is crochet 5 single crochet stitches as instructed by the pattern so I took the stitch marker out and I’m gonna crochet 1 single crochet stitch two single crochet stitches at this point I like to just put the stitch marker back into the very first stitch of the round even though I know I’m gonna be moving it later because then I am guaranteed to not lose my spot in case something goes terribly wrong alright so I made two single crochet stitches here’s a third fourth and fifth alright at this point the pattern says to move the stitch marker to the fifth stitch of the round so right now the stitch marker is in the first stitch I’m gonna move it over two three four five if I indeed crocheted five stitches here and the reason why we’re moving this dish marker to this point now and not the actual first stitch of this round is because this is going to be the new first stitch of the subsequent round the round that is going to be the first really small circle to create the leg of the bear so now I need to single crochet now they’re 23 single crochet stitches so I’m going to fast-forward through that all right I’ve completed 23 single crochet stitches which means I am done with the 53rd round so whatever round you have on your pattern that says to do something more or less of the essentially pattern of a few single crochet stitches now you move the stitch marker in and then you finish the rest of the leg so now we are going to start round 54 which says the first single crochet of this round will be in the stitch with the stitch marker and we’ll connect the front of the body to the back see instructions to the right for more detail and remember to insert the hook from the outside to the inside of the body and then create 24 single crochet stitches so let’s look at this image on the right what it is trying to explain is that this side alright let’s see to start round who do you for rotate your work so that the side with the stitch marker is facing you so right now my bear since I just finished round 53 oriented this way and the instructions explained that we need to actually rotate the piece so now the stitch marker side is the side closest to me and so like all other rounds that you do you always want to insert your hook next into this dish that is marked by the stitch marker because this word might remember is the new first stitch for this round and to make sure that you consistently will have the right side of the the stitches facing on the outside even for the leg that’s why there’s that extra instruction that is a reminder that you want to insert your hook this way into the piece as you normally would when you’re doing something in the round instead of what you might naturally think you want to do you know which would be from the inside to the outside of the bear that is a no-go if you do that then your leg stitches will look than the body stitches so the other tip that I have is that when you are connecting the the front and the back of the bear you want to hold this really tight because you want to minimize the amount of yarn that’s gonna go in between the two sides so that there is less of a hole between the two sides of the bear or whatever animal you’re approaching so I’m gonna take the stitch marker out remember what stitch that was in though before you do that and now I’m gonna stick the hook into that stitch from the outside of the bear to the inside I’m squishing real tight and I’m just gonna do a regular single crochet into that stitch and then we’re gonna put the stitch marker back into the stitch that I just made because I want to remember that that is the first stitch of this round then I’m just gonna crush a bunch of singles – no single crochet stitches in this new much smaller round that represents the leg as I normally would
